Self Promotion Zine: Laying out the Layout
To create my zine using A4 sheets, ready to be stitched together, I've had to create an entirely different layout in InDesign than I normally would. This includes understanding which page is which, once layered on top of eachother, will read accordingly. I'm also setting my inDesign file up so that each page will be double sided, so pairing up the individual pages has to be spot on too. Come time to print, I want to make sure that everything's already been thought of, so there's no worries when it comes to the final push.
Poster for Kit
As part of my self promotional kit, I plan to use this poster as a piece of the kit. I will be an A3 piece that will be folded to fit the shape of the box. This is one of my favourite pieces from my most recent projects, so definitely want to highlight that.
Extra Promotional Material Proposal
Along with my zine, I aim to create business cards with the same graphical design elements to go along with my zine. This is also something can take away as a reminder of my name and details should they think of me for a design opportunity.
Again, I want to maintain the handmade feel, and will be printing these myself, along with doing all the cutting and finishing myself. This process will take longer rather than sending them to a printers, but I want to be part of every step of my self promotional journey and want that to reflect in my work.
If possible, with time and money constraints, I would like to present these two products in a 'kit' along with various promotional items that I find able to complete in time. These extra items may include stickers, 'gifts', posters, etc.

Book Binding Methods
Japanese Stitch bind is a great one for use on larger books, since it's very versatile to use with a large number of pages. Despite how pretty this type of binding is, I don't think it's the right type for my zine since I imagine it as something more along the lines of a pamphlet, needing a pamphlet bind.
Staple binding isn't something you can usually do by hand, unless you've very good at stapling at an angle! However, this method has quite a nice low fi feel to it and does work as a quick alternative to other thread based binding methods.
The above method is most likely the one I'm going to use for my zines. I don't plan to have a very thick zine, no thicker than that of a booklet, so I think this is probably the most appropriate binding method to use for my project. This method is also quick and simple to do, meaning a faster production time.
Creative CV Proposal
For my creative CV aspect of this project, I plan to re-create my resume information into a zine format. I will lay it out and design it with the feel of clean and simple graphic design, influenced and inspired by my research.
I also plan to hand stitch my zines using methods I've learnt in classes and in the first year, with Mel. I'm really inspired and interested in low fi methods of production, so hand made zines is something that I think will really fulfill that and allow people and potential employers to get a sense of what I'm about.
I plan to have my CV zine roughly an A5 or A6 size with possible pages having fold out posters and a double page spread in the middle that can be taken out as a small poster.

A selection from past WBL blogs...
Another great artist I found through some quick google searches for good self promotion. His name is Mark Soetantyo and he's got, not only a great self promotional poster and pack, but a really nice amount of work to back it up. A nice artist to inspire to.
This is a really nice creative CV that I found online by Effektive Studio on their move to Sydney from Glasgow. It contains an A2 poster and an A5 booklet and is a really nice way to introduce yourself and sell yourself to a client. I know that if I recieved this, I would be very impressed!
This was one of the self promotion packs that I found through the website before. However, I wanted to show more pictures of this one since the design and colours were really nice. This is something that I'd definitely like to end up with one day that could be a real example of how good my work is, and would definitely sell me to clients.
