Since my initial idea is to work with book binding and zines, I wanted to concentrate a little on inspiration for that. I found this designer's portfolio on Behance and was instantly blown away with his really great use of book binding and experimentation with materials. I think the presentation of this portfolio is very clean and simple, which is something that I definitely plan to do with this project.
What I wanted to point out with this individual piece of research was that I liked the fact it had different sized paper as part of the zine. This is something that I could bear in mind when working with ideas around the production of my own self promotional material. This inspired me to think about different textures, paper types, paper weights, sizes and various other factors that could add some more experience to my final product.
This piece of print portfolio work caught my eye since it had fold out sections inside the initial zine which is something I've never thought about doing myself. This could be a really simple, but effective way of allowing for larger scale work to be exhibited inside my zine. This could also be incorporated in the design and layout.
This is a really interesting project I came across which features some great little ideas to add some depth to my zine. By adding extras such as tags, unique layout design that makes the viewer bend and fold pages to read them, is something that I think would really make my zine stand out from others. I would still maintain a high standard of design, however these kind of small touches could make it really special.
This was a really interesting project from a first year student. It interested me since it's a cool low fi way of creating a zine. He took a memo book from the college, un-stitched it, printed on it and then re-stitched it back together. This is something that I'm quite interested in, recycling of materials and papers for my zine.
